1904) A typical school day can hold many things. There is learning, at least, I hope, laughter, understanding, socializing, spontaneity and delight. There are also tears.
A few weeks back, one of my young scholars was out in the hall crying. I went to her and asked her what was wrong. She said,” I’m just having a bad day.” I hugged her and told her to hang in there as best as she could.
The next morning, I went to her homeroom and brought her out into the hall. I asked her how her day was going today. She smiled and gave me a hug and then she said,” No adult has ever asked me that. Thank you.” I don’t know if she was exaggerating or not and it really doesn’t matter; I gave something good to someone else.
One of the extra blessings of this exchange is found in Matthew 6:1-34. Here, Jesus said when we wish to give gifts to God, we need to do it in a way that’s unseen by man; that we don’t give to be seen and praised by people. Instead, we are to give quietly because God sees these gifts.
No one else saw the exchange between me and my student, but God saw it. Dare to give in a way only God can know. That’s when true blessings take place.
