1894) It’s funny how you can look at a biblical passage you’ve seen many times and still see something new. This was true of me when I recently read 2 Timothy 2:15.
One thing I do to help me see something new is to examine the original language in which this verse was written. Taking keywords of this verse and looking at the definitions of their Greek words, I often see something richer.
This is how my research reveals it: Do your best to present yourself to God as one who is accepted, a worker who does not feel ashamed because you accurately handle God’s word.
Thinking more, I see I am not shamed because I take God at his word that I am worth Jesus’ dying for me. I am forgiven. I am redeemed, even when I don’t deserve it. God yearns to spend time with me and more. All these things take away the shame. Is this all this verse means, of course not, but it gives me hope and encouragement.
It’s good to dig deeper into God’s word. I am often surprised at what I find.
