1826) When I read verses like Matthew 21:22 that promise God will give me anything I ask for by faith, I feel confused. If you look at this at face value, it must mean if I have enough faith, God will grant anything I ask for, but is this what it means?
It’s not enough to look at one verse individually for several reasons. The simple one is verses were not in the original language of the Bible. Translators added them much later so you need to look at the entire context of the verse.
You also need to see what else the Bible says about the topic. John 15:7, for example, clarifies that when we abide or live out the words of God, we will get whatever we ask for. What this means is, when we live by God’s word, we will only want what God wants and that is what we ask for. Give me Lord what is best. I trust you to do this.
God always answers our prayers. He sometimes answers, yes, sometimes, no, and sometimes, wait for it. We can pray like this when we know, by faith, God will always do what is best for us even if we don’t know what best is.
