1790) When I “retired” from teaching Bible, my husband and I moved to Maine. Few schools in Maine allow the teaching of the Bible, so I was reassigned to teach language arts to multiple grades of middle school kids.
In order to teach in this new field, I had to take several graduate courses to earn a teaching license here. I excelled in these classes (and even earned my M Ed), and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the advanced math classes I had to take.
Though math is not my field, the main reason I enjoyed it is that math is precise. Unlike the art of writing, there is only one right answer to any of the math I had to do.
As I read Romans 8:18, I’m reminded of the precision of math. Here Paul says, The suffering we experience is < the glory that is to come.
Suffering now is real and often excruciating, but it’s less than the joy of what’s to come. The ability to focus on this equation is called faith.
