1775) There are all kinds of tests. When something is wrong, they test your vehicle. There are medical tests we have to take. There are trials that come our way that test what we’re comprised of but there is at least one more test found in 1 John 4:1.  

Here, John reminds us we must test every spirit to see if they are from God or not. One way to translate this word for spirit is regarding the spirit within us; the very things that make us who we are.

When we rub shoulders with others, we need to discern if they align their spirit with God. This makes a difference in their priorities, ethics and the type of influence we are subjecting ourselves to.

Does this mean we should not spend time with those whose spirits are of a different influence than God? I don’t think so, but it is a fact that we become like those we spend time with.

Knowing this should nudge us to choose wisely those we spend the most time with.
