1731) There is a topic I’ve wrestled with for years and it’s found in Romans 2:11. Here, Paul tells us God shows no partiality. Let’s look a little closer at the last word of the verse.
The word partiality means to give or render a judgement based on outward circumstances rather than the motive and heart of the person. If God shows no partiality, then he doesn’t operate in this manner.
I have struggled with this verse because I feel God dealt with individuals in Bible times differently than I see him deal with me. After all, didn’t God call David a man after God’s own heart? Didn’t Elijah pray and God answered immediately? BUT…
The very thinking I’ve just described is actually me doing the exact opposite of what God does. I am basing my thoughts (and even my doctrine, at times) on what I can see in these biblical circumstances and not on the entire picture.
Ultimately, we cannot perceive things from God’s perspective. Our insight is limited, but God can see beyond our limitations. It is an act of faith to take him at his word; that he sees me and answers my prayers in the same way he did for people in Bible times.
Just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
