1706) When I was in college studying to become a teacher, our instructors emphasized the importance of object lessons because they can show a connection to a student in a way that may never be understood otherwise. In addition, object lessons can help spur a memory. Whenever you see the object in everyday life, it can cause your brain to reconnect the lesson associated with it. Considering this, here is an object lesson.
In John 1:48, we find Jesus stating to Nathanael that Jesus saw him sitting under a tree, even though Jesus was not physically present. In 1 Kings 19:4, we find Elijah sitting under a juniper tree, asking God to take his life.
While both trees sheltered two men in two different times of history, they both include the gem that God saw each one and whatever resided in their hearts at the moment.
It’s easy to think, Yes, God sees me, but it’s another thing to recognize God also connects to our hearts and feels our pain and confusion.
The next time you see a tree, think of El Roi – The God who sees!
