1696) I believe the need for justice is hard-wired in most of us. There’s this place within our souls that yearns for the wrongs of this world to be righted, and if someone does not feel this way, it’s still possible to witness injustice and react.
There is so much in this life that cries out for justice. The abuse of children. The thieves who steal from the vulnerable. The law enforcer who faces attacks or unnecessarily engages in aggression towards others. If you don’t turn your head from seeing these sorts of things regularly, you can become overwhelmed.
Isaiah 42:1 tells us the chosen one of God, the Messiah, will bring justice to the nations. This can be such a comfort to the injustice we feel. It can also be a warning that if we are the ones instigating injustices, the Just Judge will deal with us.
Justice is a wonderful promise and an important warning.
