Proud or Horrified

1664) There have been some school years when I would jump at the opportunity to take a class on a field trip. Other years, it would be the last thing I would do. You see, I don’t want to take my class somewhere if they don’t know how to behave. It reflects badly on them, our school and myself. On the other hand, I would love for my young scholars to have a unique opportunity to experience something they might not otherwise.

It’s interesting to me that God does not assess us for his “field trips” and other opportunities.  Zephaniah 3:17 tells us he’s right with us; that he rejoices over us with gladness, he quiets us by his love and rejoices over us with singing. The verse does not say we have to be in a “good class” for him to do these things; he does them just because of who we are.

It’s sometimes hard to accept that God loves me, sticks up for me, is rooting for me, wants to encourage me, and so much more despite who I am. In fact, he does these things because of who I am.

That’s a picture of grace.
