1661) It’s interesting how I can wake up one day and feel a slump when nothing has yet caused me to feel this way. Other days, I might wake up, ready and excited about what may happen. When I wake up feeling one way or the other, it’s easy to get “sucked” into feeling and decide I’m going to have a good or bad day simply based on how I felt first thing.
There are a lot of things that bring these “feelings” first thing in the morning. The weather could be the cause. It could also be how well I have or haven’t slept. It could be the knowledge of what lies ahead. It could also simply be because we are calm or anxious inside.
Whatever has contributed to these feelings, Psalm 118:24 instructs us to rejoice in a new day, regardless of how we feel. Why? Because this is a day God made. Another interesting aspect is that the Hebrew word for day here can sometimes be translated as “course,” referring to the pathway God has given us.
The next time you awake feeling off, it does not have to dictate the course you are on for the day. You can keep putting one foot in front of the other, knowing eventually, you’ll wake up feeling carefree.
