Watch for Vulnerabilities

1598) There are times in our lives when circumstances leave us vulnerable. It may be a death, a violent act or even a misplaced loyalty that becomes suddenly obvious.

When someone is in any of these places or others like them, it is very difficult to see those who may try to take advantage of them. Yes, shame on anyone who would do this, but that doesn’t make the vulnerable person protected.

Because a vulnerability of this type is an easy target for being taken advantage of, we should watch out for the people around us and help keep them safe from these horrid people. Yet, even when we are watching over them, we can still miss things. That’s why Colossians 2:8 is important.

This verse specifically warns us not to be taken captive in philosophy and empty deceit and because vulnerability makes this just about impossible, we need to rely on God to give us insight. God may give this directly to the vulnerable one, but he could also give it to other believers around them during these fragile times.

Remember the words Cain sarcastically said to God, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9) The answer to that question is, yes, we are.
