1586) Honesty doesn’t seem to mean the same as it did when I was growing up. In those days, it was simple, at least in my child’s mind; honesty is telling the truth. Today, honesty has evolved into many things.
First, honesty means we tell the truth as we see it. It is often blunt and aggressive. People almost always accompany it with the justification of “Hey, I’m just telling the truth,” which often leads to passive aggression.
Second, honesty means we refuse to say something false by not speaking up at all. Someone is saying awful things about another person and we say nothing in their defense. The idea is, I said nothing false.
Third, honesty just pertains to blatant lies. A” white” lie doesn’t really count.
There are still some of us who understand that all the above is in the realm of dishonesty.
Dress it up in any way you want, but You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor means the same as it did in Bible times. Exodus 20:16
