A Fight to Eternity

1526) There have been a few times in my life when I experienced the warmth and gratitude of someone sticking up for me. You see, I find sticking up for myself difficult for multiple reasons, but when someone else does, the relief, gratitude and joy is palpable.

These thoughts lead me to my wedding vows, specifically the line, “Until death do us part.” I understand this to mean we are promising to stay by the side of our spouse and stickup for them.

This thought leads me to still another one, and that is, though Jesus is described as our bridegroom, he does not make the vow, “Until death do us part.” Instead, he says, “I vow to fight for you, stay with you, stick up for you and die for you,” but this promise isn’t until death separates us. God has promised us to fight for us for eternity. Romans 8:31

If the gift of loyalty, grace and protection is wonderful when receive from another person, how much more should it be when we contemplate all God promises us?

Perhaps it would be a good time to meditate on this wondrous gift.
