Conscience Curiosity

1525) I find the “study” of what a conscience is fascinating. It’s interesting to observe (or read about) someone when they are confronted with a moral choice in life and what urges them (or doesn’t) to make the right choice. I see this too in my classroom.

Although I’m not an expert, I’ve always been curious about the history of a person’s moral choices when they commit a horrific act. I suppose there may be psychological illnesses which make it easier for someone to make bad decisions, but I think many of us are very aware when we make the choice to do the wrong thing.

Hosea 4:6 seems to back up this thinking. God tells his people they will be punished for not making the right choices when they knew better and for not teaching their children the difference between right and wrong.

Ultimately, I don’t know how effective someone else’s conscience is but I can know my own. I do know when I have chosen to do the wrong thing and I need to make it right, both with God and with anyone else I may have affected.

How effective is your conscience?
