1510) I love to read and when I get a chance, I dig right in. I enjoy many books in both the fiction and non-fiction genre. There are times too, when I go back and read a book I read years ago because, as Robertson Davies said, “Nobody ever reads the same book twice.” The second and even third reading is new to me because my perspective on life changes each day, therefore, what I glean in my reading is new.
One book I reread recently was The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom. It is a horrifying yet faith-filled account about a family in the Netherlands who hid Jews and then were captured in WWII. So many things stuck out in my mind while reading this book and one thing I read reminded me of Psalm 121.
In the book, Corrie describes how the guards were assigned watches all hours at the labor camp where she was detained. She also describes how God watched over them around the clock. Who do you think got tired and less alert?
It’s hard to understand a God who is on guard and alert 24/7 because we cannot do this, but that’s what the Psalmist points out. God never takes his eyes off us, even though it may feel like he does on our end. In the most joyful times and most trying events, God is watching over us, protecting us from things that would not be for our good.
Don’t mistake that the difficulties we face are because God is not watching or in control. He is and is always working all things for our good.
