You’re Thinking of Me?

1507) When I was in college, there was a professor, Dr. Johnny Miller, who later became President for several years. Students at the college sought him out for his wisdom and knowledge of the scriptures. Because I worked at the college most summers during this time, I got to know him and his wife and kids. Sometimes they took me with them when they went to get ice cream or some such thing.

By the time I was a senior, Dr. Miller had moved back to pastor a church in Huston, Texas, but he came back to speak at a special Bible conference that was taking place at the school. I knew he would be busy and that he had commitments with many people so shortly after he spoke the first night; I made my way toward him just to say hello. I was stunned when he said he had set aside a lunch time to eat and catch up with me and hoped it would work for my schedule. As I nodded my head, I stood there silently, not believing this much-respected man made time for me.

It must have been the same feeling David wrote about in Psalm 139: 17. Here, he valued and treasured the fact that the great and almighty God made time for him. This awe had to be even greater than what I experienced because God knew everything about David (and he did some things that were far from what God requires) and still wanted to spend time with him.

What kind of boost in my life would I experience if I took the time to think about all I have done wrong and yet God wants to spend time with me?

Perhaps the soul searching would be helpful to all of us.
