Sometimes It’s Just the Way it Is

1506) It’s interesting to teach the “tween” kids. These kids aren’t really teenagers yet, but their bodies and minds are in a state of rapid change. Because of this, it’s not unusual to have a student who is upset or even just sad and not really know why they are.

If we’re honest, tweens aren’t the only ones who can experience this. Adults can too. I see this very thing in Psalm 42:1-6. The author of this Psalm admits he has seen God do great things yet feels depressed or sad at the same time. This is something some Christians feel results from a lack of faith. Can it be? Perhaps, but maybe it’s just a blue feeling because we didn’t get enough sleep or we’ve had 5 days of bad weather in a row.

The psalmist says in verse 6 that even though he feels the weight of the world, he will choose to remember all that God has done for him. Why? Because he knew that sometimes, feeling down is just the way it is in the moment.
