Fling

1492) I remember one time (only one?) that I kind of lost it in the classroom. I had a student who figured out that clicking his pen on the desk continually gets on my nerves. One day, he decided it would be fun to serenade my lesson with the clicking sound. Before I had a chance to think, I snatched his pen and flung it across the room. I don’t know who was more surprised, me or the kid. It’s funny now when I think of this incident.

Were you aware the Bible contains the idea of flinging something (although not in the context I used it)? Psalm 55:22 tells us to cast our burdens on the Lord. The word cast here means to fling in the Hebrew language. So, it encourages us to fling our burdens to God, an action that can become automatic.

Additionally, the verse conveys the message that in this flinging, we should allow God to take care of whatever it is, in order for us to be sustained or to endure it.

Next time you hear someone clicking a pen, maybe you can think of the idea of flinging. Hey, any way to help trigger a thought, right?
