1476) “I’m going to keep my eye on you.” This is a statement I heard a lot when I was growing up. I believe they used it exclusively to mean, “I’m watching to see if you’re up to something.”
When we read in Psalm 11:4 that God watches everyone closely, it’s easy to conclude he’s just waiting for us to do something wrong and then he’ll pounce. But you must look at the whole Psalm to get the context of these words.
David was writing about how his enemies are after him, but God is protecting him. He also informs us that despite how he witnesses the events, God has his eye on him and his enemies. Picture a loving parent watching out the window and the children play and interact with their peers, who also can be their enemies. It’s not always prudent to step in and stop the negative behaviors but let them play out, but you’ve got their backs if things get too rough.
It’s amazing to me that God is watching out the “window” and sees all that is going on around me.
