1437) When I was young, cartoon time on Saturday morning was a treat. We didn’t have channels where we could watch these animated shows anytime we wanted. My siblings and I would each have a bowl of cereal in our hands as we sat in front of the TV and watched Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny and Batman and Robin.
When I read 1 John 4:11 about God loving us and his expectations that we love others because of this, the dynamic duo, Batman and Robin, come to mind. Here, the verse says that since God loves us, we ought to love each other. Wait! That’s only one thing, not two. Yes, and no. After all, how is it possible that God gives his love so freely to us when we are spiteful, selfish, and petty? Why would God want to give his love freely when we are prideful, impatient, and unloving? The answer is the other member of this dynamic duo and that is grace.
Grace is when God gives to us not only eternal life but all the other blessings he gives when we don’t deserve them. He forgives us, listens to our prayers, encourages us, provides for us and much more. Considering this, how can we not give our love and grace to one another? God demonstrates how he used this dynamic duo in our lives and expects us to extend it to others.
Will others see this dynamic duo at work in our lives?
