I was reading an article recently about inertia. I know I had some knowledge about it buried way back in my mind, but what I read spurred me on to rediscover it.

Newton’s First Law of Motion (inertia) tells us that an object at rest or in motion will continue in the same state unless an external force steps in.

As I read about this law, four words caught my eye: at rest, continue, and unless. As I thought about this, it caused me to wonder if the same is true in our spiritual lives. What do I mean?

If I choose to let my Bible reading or prayer life come to a stop, I will have the tendency to stay in this nonproductive place. If Newton’s First Law of Motion overlaps into our spiritual lives, I need to be aware of this propensity so, with God’s help, I can step in and reactivate my forward motion.
