1387) One of the most valuable gifts you can give someone is the gift of being with them in their time of sorrow. When someone is suffering, you cannot stop it, you cannot change it, but you can be there for someone, literally. Sitting with someone in their pain, saying nothing, is a tremendous gift and a hard one to give. Why? Because sitting with someone in this manner means you are not trying to solve something you can’t. Instead, you are experiencing some of the pain with them
Jesus knows we need this type of comfort. He tells us in Matthew 28:20 that even though he can make things better, if this is the best for us, he will always accompany us through our sorrows. He is right there, weeping as he did outside Lazarus’ tomb.
Rejoice in your sorrows because God himself accompanies you.
