1386) I think it’s interesting that when a wide majority of people find themselves in horrible situations, they cry out to God a one-word prayer: “Why?” Some of these people may have never spoken to God before, or some may even have claimed to reject God. There’s just something God has put within us; a need to find meaning in life and in our circumstances and because the Bible says God made us in his image (Genesis1:27), we seek our creator.
When we find ourselves in difficult circumstances, if God does not respond the way we beg him to, it’s easy to conclude God is indifferent to our prayers. It can feel as if God has abandoned and betrayed us when nothing can be further from the truth.
John 14:1-4 can combat these thoughts and feelings. Here, Jesus said not only should we trust him, but God is building a place for us with him in heaven. A place that will hold no despair, sorrow, abandonment or betrayal. A place where we will experience all the things we cannot always see happening in this life.
Jesus knew we can only see our circumstances as if we are looking in a mirror that only shows part of its image (1 Corinthians 13:12), so he asks us to cling to the hope, by faith, that a better place is coming for his children.
