1359) It is amazing today how many businesses have had to make shorter working hours or even close because owners cannot find any hired help. I don’t think there is a shortage of workers in recent years, so why is this? I’m not sure you can answer this simply, but Proverbs 22:29 reveals one reason.

This verse says reliable workers will serve kings because they are valuable. Why? Because they work at being better employees (or have better businesses if one is self-employed). There is no substitute for hard work.

For those who have this admirable work ethic, I think you’ll find they have other priorities in line within the rest of their current lives. This may be because the part within that pushes them to do their best and represent God and their families well is alive and vibrant.

Another thought is, you don’t have to be formally employed to be put in the Proverbs 22:29 category. Whenever you finish a household job, you do your best. Whenever you teach Sunday school, you do your best. Whenever you commit to pray for someone, you take it seriously and petition God on their behalf.

God wants workers who are committed to him and these workers take their assigned jobs, even if it’s not for pay, seriously.
