1355) Not too far from where I live is a river that rushes under a bridge. When I drive by and I see and hear the water moving quickly, I am amazed that this water is always flowing, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. If I’m in a contemplative mood, I wonder where the source of this river is and why it doesn’t run out. I know there are scientific reasons for this, but it’s still amazing to me.
Thinking along these lines, when I read in 2 Corinthians 1:3, that God is the source of all comfort, it gives me the picture of it flowing right into my soul. The next verse (4) tells us, because we are continually receiving comfort, then we have it within us to share it with others. This verse does not say we can make someone else heal, but just that we can bring comfort.
Comfort comes in different packages and it’s a good thing because each person needs different types. We can do this using the specific gifts God has given us and, like the river, the flow of comfort continues because God gives us it himself. Amazing!
