Expensive Calls

1352) If you are below the age of 30, you probably don’t remember a time when you needed to wait until the phone company lowered its rates so you could make long-distance calls cheaper. This was when you were charged by the minute and if it was a call during “prime time,” you could run up a significant bill.

Today, phone companies don’t charge you long distance rates the same way but, in reality, cellphone bills have taken the place of toll calls. Depending on your plan, a cellphone can cost you an amount that is comparable to long distance rates of yesterday.

Isn’t it good we don’t have to wait until the rates are lower to talk with God? We don’t even need a cellphone with its heavy monthly bills to have a conversation with God. BUT, do not think these “calls” are free. They aren’t. The cost of having a direct line to God is Jesus’ life; his death on the cross.

Next time you lift up a prayer, thank God for paying the bill so you don’t have to. Psalm 145:18-19
