1350) Take a moment and consider what you picture when you hear the name, God. Do you see a heavenly being who has gray hair and a gray beard? What emotions do you see on God’s face? Do you see a smile? Anger?
As I consider this, I wonder if what I picture is the “God” I have created in my mind. I wonder if my image is based more on the type of father I have?
If I read Matthew 11:29, I have to adjust the picture in my mind. Here, Jesus said he is gentle and humble in heart.
Just think, God is gentle. I picture the God of all the universe picking up a lamb, gently, and letting it nuzzle against him. God is also humble in heart. He doesn’t feel the need to lord it over anyone–even though he could. He displays a strength that is controlled. If he needs to punish, he never does it with pleasure. He never throws words around when angry.
If we go through Scripture and look at all the things it tells us God is, maybe we can adjust our image of him, leading to even more worship and appreciation of him.
