1345) We watch little television in our home but the times we do, we can’t help noticing many companies, often belligerently, force themselves into our home in the form of a commercial. These commercials are usually louder than the volume of whatever we’re watching and are often shots-in-the-dark whether they will interest us enough to purchase from them. It’s ironic that the media chosen to sell us something influences us not to.
Thinking of the marketing choices companies make causes me to reflect on God’s “marketing.” We are told in Revelation 3:20 that Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks. He does not pound on the door, nor does he barge right in.
God also reveals to us in Jeremiah 33:3 that we need to call him when we are in trouble. Does this mean God won’t help us even when we don’t ask? I don’t think so, but it’s apparent God wants a two-way relationship with his children. He doesn’t want to be the only one instigating a relationship. After all, this is not healthy.
Come to God. He will not barge in like an annoying commercial.
