Old Things Passed Away: Being Deceived

1331) Spring in Maine brings a lot of things but the “greening out” that much of the country experiences this time of year does not happen until nearer the summer season. First, we have mud season. This is when snow melts and mixes with the sand on the roads from the sanding trucks and the dirt roads become covered in mud. Second, we have frost heaves on the road. This is when the water underground and under the road freezes and thaws multiple times, causing the road to hump over or dip lower. You cannot run your vehicle at regular speed or you damage your suspension. Because I didn’t know these things my first winter, I damaged the alignment of my car. I could take my hands off the wheel and my car would have drifted to one side of the road. In the few moments of hands-free driving, I’m not far off the roadway, but this quickly changes.

In Titus 3:3, it says God’s children should not have the vulnerability of deception in spiritual things (or, at least, make it less likely to happen). The word deception means to be led off course. To keep this from happening, you need to be grounded in God’s principles. You cannot easily be deceived if you’re saturated in what God teaches us to do in his word.

Having a foundation of scriptural knowledge is important.
