Last Days: Conceit

1315) I am very busy, but I always make time to do at least a little reading each day. I love reading the thoughts, ideas and creativity of others and when something especially hits me, I write it in my quotes journal. One such quote is, “You’d worry less about what others think about you if you realize how little they do.” (David Wallace).

We get so caught up in our own lives, thoughts, emotions and values, we can make the mistake that others spend the same amount of time thinking about these things in relationship to us. It’s easy to believe the world revolves around us and this thinking is what Paul tells us will be prevalent in the last days. (2 Timothy 3:4) Conceit will abound.

When you have a community of conceit, people believe their way of doing things, their thoughts, are the only correct way. They will frequently pat themselves on the back and often take credit for doing something someone else did first. A conceited society does not value unity. After all, it’s survival of the fittest and under these circumstances, everyone believes they are on the top of the food chain, sort-of-speak.

I think it’s ironic that the only person whose words, actions and thought are above others, Jesus, said the greatest will be a servant and he included himself. (Matthew 20:26-28)

In the last days, people will place very little concern with others and will make their own lives the priority. A community who acts this way will crumble and fall apart.
