1303) Paul reveals in 2 Timothy 3:2 that in the last days, people will be abusive. This word conjures up a specific image in my mind and, had I not researched further into this word in the original Greek language Paul was using, I would not know that a better translation here would be blasphemous. The Apostle stated that as the days tick away to the end of this world, people will become, in greater numbers, blasphemous, but what does this mean?

I don’t want to oversimplify this word, but because I need to understand it, here is the definition in its most basic form. Blasphemy is showing a lack of respect for God and all he is. Again, this brings up many pictures in my mind, but to slow down my thinking, I want to consider the word respect (or lack thereof).

If you respect someone, you value who they are and what they stand for. You admire something this person has done and is doing. Respect is something that is given, over time, and the giver must see a consistent presentation of these things of value in order to do so. If you don’t seek to find out more about this person, there are no grounds for respect. With God, in the last days, people will have less interest in seeking him and, therefore, have no respect for his word and gift of salvation.

It’s very hard to respect someone you don’t know and because many will write off God’s Word and principles, they will value nothing associated with the Bible and God.
