How to Pray: Intercession

1269) When I was young, I had the privilege of attending a Christian camp. We got to take part in many fun things, from horseback riding to canoeing. One summer, I took archery and found out it is much more difficult than I thought it would be.

In order to hit the target, I had to have the proper equipment, but I also needed to know how to use them. Doing these things takes practice, and this is what Paul is referring to in this part of the prayer formula. Intercession, as it is used here, means to ask God to “hit the mark” of what is specifically needed for the person we are praying for.

God knows we cannot always know the exact needs of others, but he does, and he always hits the mark. Intercessional prayer helps us to do this. 1 Timothy 2:1.
