1261) For many years, I was blessed to be a part of a chorus led by an individual who is well known in the classical music world. Because I had no serious background in music, I learned a lot from him.
One thing my friend would constantly point out in our rehearsals are the notes of “resolution” in the music. These are the end notes that bring the ones before it a satisfaction to the ear. As we would work through music, I would often listen to what the music would feel like without these notes, and I would literally feel on edge without them.
When I read 2 Thessalonians 1:11, I think of the resolution of music. Here we have Paul telling us that in God’s justice, he will give us every desire we have for goodness. This word, desire, closely reflects the word, resolution.
We have this God-given desire within us for goodness, for justice, and here we find God will provide us the resolution we desire in the next world.
It takes faith to hear in our hearts these notes of resolution; listen for it.
