So many of us are focused on making better choices for our bodies, but I think it’s easy to forget that we should also be concerned with building up our souls and even the body of the church, as well. How do we do this? Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5.
The first thing we can do to build our body and the body of Christ up is found in verse 12. We are to acknowledge those who help lead and guide us spiritually. This word, “acknowledge” is better translated as appreciate.
When someone feels appreciated, it gives a boost that can often be the sole reason they can keep putting one foot in front of the other. Those who guide us spiritually are usually not doing it for the money, but because of a calling. Genuine appreciation is a gift that not only benefits the person receiving it, it also benefits the one giving it.
If you want to build up the body of Christ, give a graceful acknowledgment that you appreciate all these people are doing for the Lord and you. 1 Thessalonians 5:12
