1228) I read once about a couple who had so many disagreements, they literally drew a line through their home and one side belonged to the wife and the other side belonged to the husband. The relationship was so bad, they hadn’t spoken with each other in years; they just existed in the same household.
What do you think about them? My reaction is, “What sort of relationship is that?” I wonder why they didn’t just divorce and go their own way. When a husband and wife (or any other relationship you have with someone else) won’t speak or even acknowledge one another, the relationship is doomed.
Good communication (even some communication) is necessary to maintain a relationship. I think most of us know this and yet, as followers of God, why do some of us speak so seldom to God? I also think there is another question that’s important. Why does God want to speak with us?
The Bible tells us God wants to speak with us and he wants to hear what we have to say. Everything. There is no topic that is off limits. We don’t have to worry about what we say and God taking it the wrong way. We do not have to worry about our bad attitudes at the moment. God wants to speak with us and this “speaking” is a two-way street.
Paul knew these things because he tells us in Colossians 4:2 to devote ourselves to prayer. Why? Because it is necessary to maintain a relationship. It’s also good practice for the next life for those of us who are God’s.
Rejoice! God wants to speak with us. Are you on speaking terms with him?
