Get Dressed: Love

1223) Some think that love is an easy garment to wear. What do you think? A teen might think you can’t help who you love, so that makes that outfit comfortable. But life experience has taught the rest of us that love is probably the most difficult coat to wear.

The love referred to in Colossians 3:12-14 is the love that’s unconditional and even means that you are willing to give your life for another — even someone you can’t stand. How in the world can Paul (and, ultimately, God) expect us to wear this type of love? The good news and bad news is, you can’t. It’s good news because love of this type isn’t always possible for people and God’s grace covers us for this. The bad news is that the part of us that is selfish doesn’t even want to try, yet, God still tells us to love one another.

Love is a choice. We need to pick up the garment of love daily and put it on.
