1222) Much has been written about the subject of forgiveness and, rightfully so. Forgiveness is a garment that isn’t always comfortable. It may be “itchy”, irritating our emotional skin. It can be very heavy, costing us energy that we don’t always feel we can produce. The bottom line, forgiveness is hard to wear but very necessary.
Wearing the garment of forgiveness benefits you more than the object of it. It allows you to put down the burdens of anger, resentment, fear, and so much more. It cuts the tie you have to the person you need to forgive. It’s almost as if you’ve taken a pair of scissors and done it. There’s no magic formula to forgive; It’s a choice. Every time you think and react to someone who has wronged you, you can choose to “change the subject” in your mind. You can refuse to dwell on it and get even. It is a garment that must be put on every single day but is so worth it.
Paul is doing us a favor by instructing us to wear forgiveness. Colossians 3:12-14.
