Wait

1204) I have a new puppy in my house. If you ever want to test your patience; get a puppy. Though Cayce is a loved member of our household, he always needs or wants something.

The first week we had Cayce, he and I were upstairs in our home. He was running around during a puppy frenzy and headed down the stairs. Of course, he went down too fast and fell, end over end, two-thirds of the way down. At the bottom of the stairs, his body hit the baby gate leaning against the wall and knocked it over on himself too. He was frantic. I rushed down the stairs, moved the gate off him and he plastered himself against me while I tried my best to evaluate if he had any injuries. I held him close, telling him it’s OK. Since that time, Cayce will not go down the stairs; he will wait at the top and I’ll have to carry him down.

Sometimes I’m writing upstairs and I go down to warm up my coffee in the microwave. In my absence, Cayce waits at the top of the stairs and if I’m taking too much time, he whines. He does not understand that all he has to do is wait; I’ll be back up in a few minutes.

These thoughts reminded me that sometimes, we can ask God for help, guidance and even things and his answer is to wait. Like Cayce, we might find ourselves at the top of the stairs and we need to realize that God is at work, even if it seems he isn’t coming to help us. He is, in his own timing.

Wait. Psalm 130:5-6.
