1193) Once upon a time, I got food poisoning and had to go to the hospital for it. I believe it came from some chicken I had eaten. By the time I arrived at the emergency room, I had lost a lot of fluids. I stayed there for many hours and from that point on; I had no appetite for chicken prepared in the way I had eaten it. In fact, I had no appetite for any food for a day or two.
There are a lot of illnesses that cause a loss of appetite. When this is how your body feels, it’s very difficult to take in nourishment when you vitally need it.
Spiritual illnesses can cause a loss of appetite for God and his word. This makes taking spiritual nourishment difficult, too.
Jesus knew this and stated God’s children must hunger and thirst for righteousness (right-ness). If you are spiritually unhealthy, you need to do something about it. You get healthy by reading God’s words and obeying them.
The reward for being hungry and thirsty for righteousness is the blessing of contentment; being filled and satisfied with having a good relationship with God. Matthew 5:6
