Mouth Guards

1144) When my students play soccer, they have to wear mouth guards. It’s interesting to watch them get used to putting them in before practice. They get to laughing as they try to speak to each other with them in because their words are muffled.

Watching this, I wondered what it would be like if all of us would wear similar mouth guards to help remind ourselves of our word choices. I use the word choices here because we do have the ability and responsibility to weigh what we are saying and how we say it.

The Psalmist understood the power words have and asked God to set a guard over his mouth.

The world would be a better place if we were all more careful with our words. Psalm 141:3
