Revenge Wears Many Faces

1143) They say revenge is sweet, but have you considered we’re all pretty good at getting even with others? If you’re like me, it’s easy to conclude, No! I don’t take revenge on others, but is this true?

Have I ever used passive aggression with anyone? Passive aggression is getting back at someone through the back door. I might withhold compliments from someone so I can manipulate them to do what I want them to do.

Have you ever used backhanded comments? If I say, “you did surprisingly well on that paint job.” Adding the word, surprisingly, means I was not expecting this person to do such a good job.

Passive aggression and backhanded complements are both forms of revenge. Being aware of this is the first step in letting go of our need to belittle someone.

The second step is just as important. When someone has wronged us, we need to give it over to God and let him deal with the situation. This does not mean we ought to let others walk all over us. Instead, healthy boundaries combined with allowing God to take care of what someone else has done to us is the best way to handle situations like these.  Deuteronomy 32:35
