I Forgot!

1135) As a teacher, I have heard so many excuses for why my students didn’t do something they were supposed to. According to them, they didn’t have their homework, because the dog ate it; the baby sister tore it up; the mother didn’t put it in their backpack or they lost it. One of these answers is not number one, however. The go to excuse for not doing something I have asked is, “I forgot.”

With the way the minds of some of my kids seem to spin, I don’t doubt there really are times the kids forget, but have you noticed life has a cruel irony? When you want to forget something, you can’t.

There are days when I sit quietly in the evening and I just shake my head and call myself a lot of names because I have said or done several things I shouldn’t have. It’s like Satan won’t let me forget them, even after I’ve made things right with the people involved and with God. But, remember, Satan is called the Father of Lies. (John 8:44) and we need to remember God is not the being Satan would like us to believe.

With giving us forgiveness when we ask for it, God not only forgives but throws our bad choices as far as the east is from the west. He forgets them. If you were to ask him afterward, “Do you remember when I made this terrible choice?” God would reply, “No!”

Isn’t it good we have a God who not only forgives us, and doesn’t hold the wrongs we’ve done over our heads? God forgets them!  Psalm 103:12
