Opportunities or Overextending?

1086) Some of the most precious gifts I have received were from people who made themselves available to me for various things. I have been given listening ears, encouraging words, professional advice (in direct reference to my involvement in the arts and in teaching), music lessons, and just plain fun (and these are only some of these types of gifts I have received). All these people that gave to me understood the difference between opportunities and being overextended.

Ephesians 5:15-16 tells us wise people are those who make opportunities to give of themselves such as the examples I’ve mentioned above. I’m also wondering if part of this title “wise” is there because these people know when to step in and offer themselves and when to say, “no”.

Overextending yourself is not a sign of godliness; even Jesus took a break when he needed it.

Are you making opportunities to help others or merely trying to feel good about yourself by overextending?
