1072) My career in education has had many twists and turns. There have been many wonderful things that have happened and some that were not. There are things my students have said throughout the years I’ll never forget, and there have been many special things that happened that I will cherish. One of these things results from something my current principal came up with, and that is having the staff nominate students and voting for the Role Model Award. The thought behind this is to recognize students who have modeled, consistently, citizenship, good choices, kindness and a list of many other things. When these plaques are presented to these students, there is a hushed awe the sweeps through the gym when each name is called out.
The whole point of being a role model is to set an example to everyone else. Ephesians 4:32 tells us God is the role model of forgiveness. The God who knows everything about each of us and is still willing to forgive us each time we do something wrong. This is how God wants us to forgive others. It’s a modeling of a choice we need to make each day.
With the garbage of unforgiveness tossed out, it makes room for us to choose forgiveness and being role models for others who need to learn the grace of forgiveness.
