1015) Courage is a difficult thing to produce. There was a time in my life that I mistakenly thought courage was something that appeared when difficult things happened. Instead, courage is a choice. It says that despite how I feel; despite the circumstances; despite how others see me, I do what needs to be done.
Considering this, 1 Corinthians 2:3 surprised me. Paul, a man who has spoken before many; who confronted powerful people when necessary; and who endured suffering without turning from his faith, said he was standing before the Corinthians in “fear and trembling”. What I am focusing on is not that he experienced “fear and trembling” but that, despite this, he did what he needed to do.
Sometimes we can forget that the people in the Bible were ones who thought, felt and struggled with most of the things we do today. This brings me comfort because I can look at someone like Paul and think he had thoughts and feelings like I do and he didn’t give up; therefore, I can do the same.
Courage is not something we need to hunt around for and then “feel” it. We can be courageous because we are making the choice. Dare to choose courage.
