952) I have mentioned before that I work too much. It’s hard for me to take a break and let things go for a while. I’ve tried to analyze why I do this (while doing something else, of course) and I wonder if I have the idea that always doing something productive is what God wants from us. Though I don’t debate the fact that God wants us to be productive, nowhere in Scripture does God instruct us to work until we drop. In fact, Acts 6:1-7 gives us an example of men who knew they couldn’t do everything.
In these verses, some followers of God notified the Apostles that the widows of the day were being neglected, something God has specifically said should not happen. But when I looked at what the Apostles did in response to this, it opened my eyes a bit. They say that they have another job to do but that there needs to be those who will take care of the widows. They delegated the job to others. They did not do it all.
It’s easy to think that the godly thing to do is to do everything, but these “everythings” cannot get the attention they need when you’re spread so thin. Delegation is not only prudent, it’s biblical. Overachievers are overrated.
