923) My middle school classroom is at the back of our school. Looking out of my room’s window, you can see the playground and, depending on what time of day it is, you can watch and hear other classes of kids running around and shouting with joy. My students have a difficult time paying attention to what I’m doing with them because the kids outside are distracting them.
In Luke 18:18-30, Jesus met a man who was also distracted. We are told in these verses that he was a wealthy man. He sees Jesus and asks him what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus replied that the rich man must give away all his wealth and then he would have treasure in heaven.
The wealthy man left Jesus’ presence because he was so distracted by his money, he couldn’t focus on living a godly life.
Money, or even the lack of it, can be such a distraction because it does not hold the same value in the spiritual realm. It’s good to be reminded that placing value on temporal things is unwise. You can’t take it with you.
