898) Living in the 21st Century, those of us in the U.S.A. are not as used to “classes” of people. We may be acquainted with these from viewing TV shows set in periods of time where this was more typical, but we sometimes think this “unlevel” playing field doesn’t exist in our country. Not so. We have many “classes” of people either by race, economic background, politics, etc. And how does God feel about these ranks of people?
In Luke 2:8-20, a group of what some would call the “lower class” were the first ones to be informed of Jesus, the Savior’s birthday. These men were shepherds. They had the undesirable job (at least I think of it this way) of staying with sheep, that are in dire need of watching and care, 24 hours a day. Angels appear to them and they go and worship him.
God could have first announced Jesus’ birth too much more influential people, but he informed “the least of these.” God has a different level of the playing field than many people do.
