883) As a teacher of many years, it’s hard to hold back my reaction to some of my students’ boastful statements. I know they’re young so I expect this but I have found I’ve needed to be careful in my reaction to them.
In Mark 10:17-31, an “educated” man, who was very wealthy, came to Jesus. He boasted that he had kept all of God’s laws and instead of Jesus laughing at the absurdity of his statement, verse 21 tells us that Jesus gave this man the most expensive gift of all. The verse says that Jesus loved the man. Jesus wasn’t out to get him or show how “ignorant” he was. Instead, Jesus gave this man the most expensive gift: love.
You may not be able to buy this gift, but it is expensive. It cost Jesus His life.
