858) I have always been a worrier. My husband will sometimes be frustrated with me (as he is not a worrier) and will say, “What good does it do?” He’s right, of course, but sometimes I have the ridiculous idea that the more I worry about something, the more it shows me dedication and/or commitment I have to this object of my worries.
For example, I’ll worry and my husband’s health. Because I’m worrying it’s because I value him. That may or may not be true, but Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25-34 that we should not worry. He specifically says about what we need to eat or wear, but I think it’s safe to say he is also including everything.
Why not worry? Jesus is reminding us that God knows our needs and He’ll meet those needs when and if we need them. This is not always a patient wait because God doesn’t operate on the timetable I would like him to.
I read somewhere that worrying is a lot like sitting in a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn’t take you anywhere. Don’t worry!
